The UK left the EU with a withdrawal agreement at 11.00 pm on 31 January 2020 (exit day). Since then, we have been in the transition period.

During the transition period, the UK continues to be treated for most purposes as if it were still an EU member state.

The transition period will end at 11.00 pm on 31 December 2020. Under the terms of the withdrawal agreement, any decision to extend the transition period had to be taken before the deadline of 11.00 pm on 30 June 2020. No such decision was made.

Bottom line? Whatever outcome of any future UK-EU relationship agreements, significant change is expected at the end of the transition period.
